Did you know that hypnosis
is a natural state? Well, it is. The feeling you have when
you're comfortable, relaxed and daydreaming is very much like
entering a hypnotic state.
Any time you're completely
involved in doing something, concentrating so hard that you
aren't really aware of what's going on around you, you're in a
state of mild self hypnosis. The thing is, you were still in
control. You could snap out of it anytime you chose.
This state is a valuable
therapeutic tool. It can be used to communicate new ideas,
perspectives and understanding to the subconscious.
On its own,
hypnosis
is
not really a therapy. But, in combination with psychotherapeutic
techniques it becomes highly effective. This is
hypnotherapy.
The subconscious is always
acting in our best interests; its intent is always positive. The
therapeutic technique I use is to always work with that positive
intent to help you achieve the outcomes you desire.
In our day to day living,
the critical part of the mind obstructs new ideas. It's designed
to do so; that's why change is often difficult to achieve on our
own. In hypnotherapy we get around this critical function and
communicate newer, more productive goals and strategies to the
subconscious.
To do this we use
powerful, positively phrased suggestions, metaphors and images
to overwrite limiting and obstructive, (and sometimes even
destructive), beliefs.
But, the subconscious mind
will always reject any unacceptable hypnotic suggestions. You
can't be made to do or think or believe something you don't want
to.
When a person is in a
hypnotised state, he or she will usually experience increased
relaxation, improved memory recall, and much greater
concentration and focus. Most people agree that the state of
hypnosis is very pleasant. Most people feel uplifted and
experience a sense of well being after a session of
hypnotherapy.
When hypnotherapy is used
to help with a medical condition it should be viewed as a method
of enhancing medical therapy by maximising the body's own
response to disease.
Here are just some very
common problems where hypnotherapy has proven value: all manner
of stress
related conditions, anxiety, insomnia, addictions, IBS, quit
smoking, obesity, phobias, obsessions, nail biting, children’s
problems.
