We all know that diets don't work.

Most people who follow a traditional dieting system will lose weight while they're on the diet. But as soon as the diet stops, the weight invariably returns, often leaving them heavier than before they began the diet. As many as 95% of people who diet experience this cycle.

The problem is that dieting, both while we are on them and after we stop, makes us think more than ever about food. Diets are about denial. And sure you can do that for a while, but the very idea of restricting what we eat forever is enough to put most of us off. So, we give up.

Conscious self-denial of something can often make us want it more. When we deny ourselves the foods we love, especially our comfort foods, three things happen:

  • The brains fights against it;
  • The body fights against it; and
  • The day to day environment fights against it.

Is it any wonder that achieving and maintaining our target weight through dieting alone is so difficult?
