Agoraphobia, as with many phobias, is an anxiety disorder.
It’s a lot more than just a fear of wide open spaces, though for a few people it is simply that.
Agoraphobia is the fear of the fear; being afraid of overwhelming feelings of terror. This can happen in wide open spaces of course, but it can also be in busy shopping malls or social gatherings.
Typically, although not always, an agoraphobic is constantly looking for an ‘escape route’ out of whatever situation they fear, continually thinking thoughts like ‘where can I go to be safe?’
It doesn’t help to know that your fear is not logical.
You know that, in the grand scheme of things, walking to the shop or in the park is, logically speaking, a fairly safe thing to do. But intense fear simply takes over even as you think about it, before you take one step outside the front door.
This feeling is not logical. It is emotional and it is automatic. It just happens.
This tells us something very important. This fear, this phobia, (like all phobias), is triggered and powered from within the subconscious mind. It is not consciously and logically driven. No amount of logic will therefore overcome agoraphobia. You have to find a way to get into the workings of your subconscious mind to find those phobia triggers and relieve them.
Hypnosis provides an ideal method to do just this.
In using hypnotherapy to treat agoraphobia, I work with your subconscious to uncover the original causes of the agoraphobia and then – still using hypnosis – help your subconscious to understand that it doesn’t need to be on the alert in these situations to keep you safe.
Once your subconscious fully understands and accepts this the agoraphobia becomes a thing of the past.
You can be rid of those feeling of anxiety and fear of agoraphobia.
You can regain a normal life; a life without fear.
